The NAR (National Association of Realtors) settlement addresses concerns about real estate agent fees. Previously, the NAR required home sellers to offer compensation to buyer's agents through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). This practice led to lawsuits. The settlement resulted in new rules allowing agents and clients to negotiate commission fees directly, rather than having them automatically set by the MLS.

The NAR settlement became effective in Ohio on August 17, 2024. From this date, all licensed real estate agents in Ohio are required to comply with the new regulations.
